IRISH AUTHOR – LOCAL INTEREST
This magical page-turner is inspired by the true story of George Brewster, the last child chimney sweep. Brewster has been sold to a cruel Master Sweep to risk his life up the narrow jungle of chimneys to reach the sky.
But Brewster has a SECRET: he’s a wizard with numbers and he’s predicted a terrifying storm of stars. Upon each star he’ll cast his passionate wish to be the last climbing boy EVER. When a powerful woman offers to make his wish come true, Brewster is challenged to do something impossible in return.
By acclaimed Irish author Eve McDonnell, this story is also partially inspired by the giant telescope at BIRR CASTLE in Tullamore.
When the author kindly sent us a gorgeous signed copy, we asked avid reader Róisín, who is just 10 years old, to review it for us.
Róisín’s top three words to describe the book are
“amazing, brilliant and great”.
Read the full review and find out why Róisín loves The Last Boy:
“The book is about a boy called Brewster. He has been sold to a chimney sweep. Brewster had a talent for numbers. He had used his talent to predict a catastrophic “storm of the stars”. When this happens he is going to make a wish to be the last climbing boy in the world.
What I liked about this book was that there was one climbing girl who was really brave. I also really liked that there was a chicken who had my name. The book was really descriptive I loved that I could picture everything clearly in my head.
There was nothing in this book I didn’t like.
If I had three words to describe this book I would say amazing, brilliant and great.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
